The origin of Viagra is quite ironic. Scientists have always tried to hunt for solutions to a taboo topic like impotence. In the end, they found their answer in a drug being developed for a certain cardiac condition. Yes, sildenafil citrate was discovered to cause amazing erections. Hence, it was later reformulated and specified for use against impotence.
Manufactured by Pfizer, Viagra is a very popular oral drug to counter impotence nowadays. It is the pioneering medication among its ranks that is classified as a PDE-5 inhibitor. Being the first, more than a hundred million prescriptions were already ordered for the said drug up to this date. It is even said that there are about 10 Viagra pills being dispensed every single minute throughout the world.
This statistics continually increases each time because of the success rate that Viagra has to offer its users. A study has even shown that 90% or more of all impotent patients have claimed of good outcomes with Viagra usage.
Viagra works simply by increasing the blood flow to the penis. This is achieved due to the relaxation of the smooth penile muscles and the nitrous oxide levels are increased in the penile blood vessels. With more blood rushing towards the penile shaft, the penis will look engorged or erect. More or less, the mechanism of action of Viagra is natural.
Usually it takes more or less 30 minutes for the desirable effect of Viagra to be achieved. Thus, the user must take it approximately half an hour prior to sex. Moreover, it must be noted that for this drug to be effective, you must have a sexual thought arousal within yourself. If you are not aroused then Viagra will not achieve its fullest effects. It is also important to know that Viagra’s effect can be sustained for up to half a day. This is particularly true if climax has not been reached because after an orgasm the penis will surely return to its pre-erect state just like how natural erections end.
Like most drugs, Viagra has its own range of side effects. The less serious complications include minor alterations in vision or sight, facial flushing, runny nose, possible indigestion and headaches. On the contrary, one of the more serious complications of Viagra usage is myocardial infarction (MI) or heart attack, which can lead to eventual death.
Because this drug is a medication for an intricate purpose, due prescriptions from the physician is necessary. Viagra must be duly prescribed because it is not recommended for everyone especially to those having conditions that may be contraindicated for the usage of Viagra. People who have cardiac problems or are known to use nitroglycerin and alpha-blockers must not take Viagra. This will just lead to adverse reactions that are often fatal. In addition, people who are allergic to sildenafil must not take in the drug. As stated earlier, you must take note that not all men can use this drug. Only those who have received the correct prescriptions can proceed and use the drug.
